About the project

A Home Designed for Time Away

Steve & Pen House was created as a personal getaway from the cold climate of England and a place for the owners to enjoy the warmer weather and relaxed atmosphere of Chiang Mai.

The couple wanted a home where they could escape, slow down, and make the most of their time away. An important part of their vision was to have a garden—a space where they could enjoy the pleasant Chiang Mai weather and spend time outdoors during their visits.

The project therefore considers the idea of a vacation home not simply as a second residence, but as a place designed specifically for rest and renewal.

At the same time, the house needed to respond to a practical reality: the owners would not be living there throughout the year. The home therefore needed to be easy to maintain while vacant, allowing them to leave with confidence and return without the burden of managing a complex property from afar.

This balance between enjoyment and practicality became an important part of the design. The home is conceived as a place that can be opened up and enjoyed when the owners arrive, while remaining straightforward to care for when they return to England.

The result is a Chiang Mai retreat that brings together warm-weather living, garden space, simplicity, and practical long-term ownership.
