Peter House

The Peter House was designed around the idea of sustainable living, with energy-conscious design integrated into the architecture from the beginning.

At the center of the home is a courtyard, which becomes the heart of the house. The presence of a tree and swimming pool creates a central space that connects the different parts of the residence while bringing nature into the everyday experience of living.

Sustainability was also an important consideration in the way the house responds to Chiang Mai’s climate. The design incorporates double walls with an ash-filled cavity to help reduce heat transfer from outside. Shading elements are integrated throughout the house to provide additional protection from the strong tropical sun.

The project also incorporates solar cells to heat water, introducing renewable energy into the home’s daily functions.

Together, these strategies form a holistic approach to sustainable residential design. Rather than relying on a single technology or feature, the house considers the relationship between site planning, passive design, shading, materials, and renewable energy.

For Niwat Architects, Peter House represents a project where environmental responsibility and comfortable living can exist together—an approach to green design that remains an important part of the studio’s architectural philosophy.
