About the project
A House That Is Part of Nature
“We are a part of nature.” That sentence was where we started this house.
The house is a collection of local natural materials. Wood and brick make up most of what you see and touch, with cement used where the structure needs it. We chose them because we wanted the house to reflect the feel of nature through the hand: the grain of timber, the rough face of a brick, the cool of a cement floor.
Those materials sit among the trees, with a lake and a mountain close by. They weather, they age, and they blend into the surroundings instead of standing out from them. For us that is simply how life is, and the house should say so.

Design Philosophy
Living With the Landscape
The design leans on local materials and the setting around them, so the house belongs to the site rather than sitting on top of it.
01
Local materials
Wood, brick and cement were chosen for where they come from and how they age, and they are left honest on the surface.
02
Touch and feel
Each material was picked for how it feels in the hand and underfoot, so people living here sense nature through contact, not just through the view.
03
The setting
The house blends with the trees, the lake and the mountain around it, and the design keeps that landscape in front of the people inside.
