About the project
Reinterpreting a Northern Thai Identity
The House in Impress Housing Village project explores how the character of Lanna architecture can be expressed within a contemporary collection of homes.
Designed as a collection of 3-bedroom and 4-bedroom houses, the project seeks to create a consistent architectural identity while providing comfortable homes for modern family living.
A key focus of the design is the roof. In Northern Thailand’s tropical climate, architecture must respond to both strong sunlight and seasonal rainfall. The roof design therefore becomes more than an architectural feature – it plays an important role in expressing the tropical character of the homes while responding to the local environment.
The project also carefully selects its primary materials. Wood and plaster cement are combined to create a warm and welcoming architectural character. The natural presence of wood brings warmth and texture, while plaster cement provides a simple contemporary foundation for the homes.
Together, the roof design and material palette create a residential collection that balances the traditional character of Lanna architecture with a contemporary interpretation suited to modern living.
