For Niwat Architects, this belief has guided our work for decades. Based in Chiang Mai, our practice has developed an architectural approach that combines contemporary living with the cultural identity and natural character of Northern Thailand.

Mandadee Heritage River Hotel is an example of our approach to hospitality architecture, where the experience of a place is closely connected to its surroundings and cultural context.
The project explores the relationship between architecture, landscape, and the riverside environment. Rather than treating the building as an isolated object, the design creates a sense of connection between the spaces, the surrounding nature, and the experience of the guests.
The recognition at the Thailand Boutique Awards 2014–2015, receiving First Prize in the category “Concept and Culture Along a River,” reflects the importance of these ideas within the project.
For us, the award represents more than recognition for a single building. It reinforces our belief that successful architecture should respond to its environment and create a meaningful sense of place.
Architecture Connected to Culture and Nature
Our work is deeply influenced by the architectural and cultural heritage of Northern Thailand.
Lanna culture provides an important source of inspiration, but our goal is not to simply recreate traditional architecture. Instead, we explore how elements of Lanna identity can be interpreted through contemporary architecture.
This approach can be seen across our residential and hospitality projects, where traditional influences are combined with modern comfort, contemporary planning, and the needs of today’s users.
At the same time, we believe that architecture should exist in harmony with nature.
The relationship between a building and its surroundings is an important part of our design process. We consider the landscape, climate, existing trees, natural light, ventilation, and the character of each site when developing our designs.
This philosophy has shaped our work in Chiang Mai and across Northern Thailand.
